Jagganath Puri Temple

The Jagannath Puri Temple, located in the sacred city of Puri, is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India and a key part of the Char Dham Yatra. Dedicated to Lord Jagannath (a form of Lord Vishnu), along with Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, the temple is famous for its unique wooden idols and rich traditions. Built in the 12th century, the temple showcases Kalinga-style architecture and stands as a symbol of deep devotion and cultural heritage. It is especially famous for the grand Rath Yatra, where the deities are taken out in massive chariots, attracting millions of devotees from across the world. The temple follows strict rituals, and only Hindus are allowed inside the main sanctum.One of the most unique aspects of the temple is its wooden idols, which are ceremonially replaced every 12–19 years during the sacred ritual known as Nabakalebara, symbolizing rebirth and continuity of divine presence. The temple is also famous for its Mahaprasad, a sacred meal prepared in one of the largest temple kitchens in the world, where food is cooked in earthen pots using traditional methods and served to thousands of devotees daily without any discrimination.The temple is globally renowned for the grand Rath Yatra, during which the three deities are taken out of the temple and placed on विशाल रथ (chariots) that are pulled by devotees through the streets of Puri to the Gundicha Temple.
